“DO YOU SOMETIMES WONDER whatever happened to the beautiful dreams of youth? When the whole of life stretched before you and anything was possible, and you longed to stretch your wings and fly.  But somehow the years crept up on you unawares and suddenly you find yourself in the autumn of life. It happens to us all if we are granted the privilege of living out our allotted life span.  How do we handle it?  Like the cynic who proclaims that youth is wasted on the young? Or do we gracefully surrender the things of youth as we grow and mature.

There are two kinds of  fool in the world.  There is  the old fool who says that because it's old it must be good, and there is the young fool who says that because it's new it must be better. The young think that the old are foolish, but the old know that the young are foolish.

Youth should respect age because age has known youth but youth has not known age.  And age should be patient, concerned, and tolerant of youth because we've all been there, and youthful idealism, however misguided, is a necessary antidote to the poison of middle-aged expediency.

‘Happy are those who find wisdom and those who get understanding, for her income is better than silver and her revenue better than gold.  She is more precious than fine jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her’ (Proverbs 3:13-15)”

“When we step off the top of a forty storey building we don’t speak of breaking the law of gravity, we’re actually demonstrating it. The same goes for what we call breaking a moral law, we don’t break it, we disobey it which brings sure and certain consequences. At that point we try to avoid the whole issue by saying that the consequences are not moral but medical, or educational, or economic, anything to avoid accepting the blame for our actions. Unfortunately the innocent get caught up in the process and frequently pay the price for the actions of the ungodly.

We hear advocacy groups telling us that AIDS is a medical problem, not a moral one. Nonsense. No one has to indulge in the practices that result in the spread of AIDS. Strict adherence to the moral code of Christianity would result in the disappearance of AIDS within a generation (but then strict adherence to the moral code of Christianity would revolutionize the world within a handful of years). But we don’t want to hear that. What we are looking for is a form of vaccination which will enable us to continue doing whatever we want without having to accept any consequences, and I have to tell you that life’s not like that. Regrettably, breaking moral laws results in misery and suffering for many innocent victims as the consequence of the actions of a few.  People rush to tell us that chastity is an impossible ideal and not even desirable in the 21st century (which is also nonsense) and so we continue to produce illegitimate babies and fodder for the abortion mills. Television programmes promote every form of moral decadence and perversion while sneering at traditional values and we allow this monster to babysit our children while we are out satisfying our greed, ever searching for more and more. If the words, “Oh my god” were to be deleted from the language most television sitcoms would be silent films! And soap operas and sitcoms accept immoral behaviour as the norm whilst hiding behind the excuse that they are only reflecting the attitudes of society, and not influencing the society. Has anyone ever asked the people running television why an advertising spot during, say, the Super Bowl, costs millions of dollars if people are not influenced by television?”
